It was love at first sight for Marie McIntyre when she passed 25 Mandalay Street, Fig Tree Pocket, on a walk with her family.
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom tri-level home had always been a dream for her family to live in.
“We lived in another house in Fig Tree Pocket before purchasing this one; it was always the dream house. It’s one of the few areas in Brisbane where you can walk along the river where it is a public space,” Ms McIntyre said.
“We missed out on the home for the first time. It went to auction, and then two years later, to our surprise, it came back onto the market. From the moment I walked in there on the first open for inspection, it was so perfect inside and out; I saw glittering diamonds and a place where I could enjoy my morning coffee.
“As a family, I suppose we loved the rumpus area the most. Our teenagers had their own getaway space where they had their own movie nights where we wouldn’t be on top of one another. This beautiful home is close to nature and central to Brisbane.”
Ms McIntyre said she couldn’t think of one specific memory that stuck out to her about her time in the house as she loved it all but said some of her family’s recent celebrations were some of those moments.
“I had my 50th during Covid, and my daughter’s 21st birthday last year. She had a big tea party on the lawn facing the river; it was such a beautiful setting. I think, especially during the pandemic, we enjoyed and appreciated the home even more when we had people over.
“I’m going to miss looking out and seeing the gumtrees and the Brisbane River during Christmases, lunches, birthdays and having that backdrop of the river is something that I will miss. But, looking to the future, we’re looking at getting an apartment in St Lucia facing the river and downsizing as the kids are starting to move out,” she said.
“Sometimes I sit with my husband and ask myself, are we making the right decision. I hope the new owners appreciate the home as much as we have and enjoy sitting and looking out to the Brisbane River, the infinity pool and letting their kids have their own space.
“It truly is the perfect family home, and I hope the next owner will enjoy it as much as we have.”
Property agent Zac Fields from Place Estate Agents, Annerley, said the home has attracted a lot of interstate interest.
“I have about three buyers from interstate who need to sell their home interstate to participate in the auction. We’ve also seen quite a bit of interest from buyers within the suburb,” Mr Fields said.
“Some interested buyers, given their own circumstances, aren’t able to bid at auction, and about five people in Mandalay Street that have said this is a property they’ve wanted to look inside and can see why it’s so desirable.
“Buyer confidence in the Brisbane property market is picking back up this year, and last year, we were hearing words of interest rates rising that no longer is the case.
“Our biggest complaint we’re hearing is there isn’t enough to buy, and there isn’t the uncertainty; the FOMO (fear of missing out) has returned.”
25 Mandalay Street, Fig Tree Pocket heads to auction Saturday October 7 at 10am.
